Reflections
I love poetry; Psalms is one of my favorite books in the Bible because of that. It's like some large secret between me and God; something He created just for me. It feels so incredibly personal to so many people and that's amazing.
Some of the Psalms that David wrote astound me with their honesty. The way that David addressed God in the key verse is so different from what I'm used to. I read this and got a sense of reverence, trust, and humility in just two sentences!
As part of my school-work this year, I am reading a book about the attributes of God. Reading Psalm 4:1 brings me back to the utter power of God. He doesn't need for me to sugarcoat how I'm feeling or how frustrated I am. He can handle it all.
A couple of years ago, I told a friend of mine that she didn't have to be pretty around me. I wanted her to know that she could be honest; that I was going to love her even if I knew the ugly things.
And God does that; reminding me every day that I don't have to be alone. I don't have to hide behind a smile and make everything okay. I can call out to Him when I don't want to be alone anymore, and there He is! He brings relief; He is that breath of fresh air after being stifled for so long. We get to be honest and real with the God of the universe. The universe is such a big place, and that makes His listening and caring special. That makes us really special.
We mean a lot to this God of ours. And this chapter/verse reminds me that He loves to see my face and hear my words; pretty or not.
