MY PERSONAL SECURITY GUARD
- Key Verse
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. (Psalms 23:4)

Central Truth
The shadow of death refers to a deep darkness when our minds are darkened by falsehoods. The rod and staff represent God's constant vigilance over his own and brings "comfort" to each child because of His personal presence and involvement in our lives.
Reflections
I define the shadow of death to be when my mind is darkened by falsehoods. I prepare my mind to receive the Truth and then the shadow of death is dispelled by the Light. God is with me. He never leaves my side. If I turn to Him, He uses His rod to smite the darkness and the hook of His staff to pull me back to the Light. He truly is "My Personal Security Guard."Psalm 23:4 reassures me that I am not alone and that I am loved by the Father. I am protected by God no matter how dark my situation may appear. God the Father is near me. Nothing can separate me from Him. My pain, caused by the darkness, does not pull me away from God unless I let it. If I focus on the Truth, it will set me free from the darkness. He comes to me with His rod and staff to comfort me.
No matter what my pain, loneliness or loss, God is with me every step of the way. I have joy in what God has done, is doing, and will do in my life. I have purpose in life. I have hope in the future.
We are not alone. God is with us. We are loved and cherished by God, who created us and surrounds us with loving community. He gave us the Light (Christ) - on Christmas morning 2,000 years ago - that dispels the darkness. The Light is available to us anew every moment of every day no matter what darkness comes upon us.
With "My Personal Security Guard" by my side, I have hope in the future.
