Central Truth

God lavishes us with His love. If we take a look at our life, we will see wonderful examples of how He has done just that.

Reflections

Our youngest daughter, Kate is a walking miracle and a mystery. On the day she was born, a bit over her due date, she came out fighting some odds. Because she was a little overdue, she had passed her merconium before she was born - in layman's terms, her first poopy diaper was not in her diaper. She did it before she was born. Greg and I knew from a friend's experience that this could be very serious for Kate with some of the side affects being brain damage. The OB and the pediatrician were competent, skillful and timely (both Christ-followers, I might add!) About 30 minutes later while feeding her for the first time, the nurse (a Christ-follower and friend - I love our small town!) had to do CPR to resuscitate her!

When Kate was two years old she threw up for the first time - and passed out! How weird! She's 11 now, and has passed out every time she's ever gotten sick to her stomach. She has syncope [sudden fainting]. Ever heard of that? Me neither. She also has severe headaches occasionally which often make her sick. In the first grade she had one such headache. She got sick and passed out. And then she was non-responsive for 2 1/2 hours.

Kate is probably our most athletic child. She's a great speller. She can memorize anything in about two minutes. She's the baby of the family with everything that entails. You would never know any of these things had ever happened to her. Every time I have to fill out a medical release for softball, field-trips, or church camp, people look at me funny when I say, " Don't let it freak you out, but if she gets sick to her stomach, she'll pass out."

I fret about it now and then. My first thought when it happens is sometimes, "Where's the nearest hospital?" But Kate is my walking, breathing reminder of God's lovingkindness. And I walk in Truth.

Discussion Questions

  1. Hind sight is 20/20. Where in your life can you look back and see God's lovingkindness?
  2. By looking back and seeing what His lovingkindness was like in your past, can you identify it in your present? Hint: He never changes! It looks very similar.
  3. In looking at your past and studying your present, and finding His lovingkindness, can you depend on Him for your future?

I love how you asked me to look at the past to trust the future, too often I'm too caught up in the present to miss all the blessings He has given me to hold on to as loving encouragement. Isn't our God so good to us.
